Program is open all year round: acceptance to the program depends on availability. Program Duration: Minimum 6 months, no maximum. Participants are
placed in English Academy Schools as well as elementary and high
schools to
implement teaching techniques that will help students learn English as
their second language. All volunteer placements are at educational institutions
that
focus only in the instruction and methods for improving verbal and
written English skills. Teachers will work in the classroom with
students of various ages depending on prior experience. Lesson plans
will mainly be up to the teacher's discretion, so long as the core
fundamentals of English are being taught. The most important areas of
teaching will be verbal and written English skills, followed then by listening
and grammatical areas of study. The average starting salary is about $420 per month for 30 hours of teaching per week. During the high season like summer time, the hours assigned to the teachers could rise. Whereas during low season (October, November, December), the hours could go down to 20 hours per week (salary = about $300 per month). This salary is more than enough for the cost of living in Quito plus spending money to do the activites you enjoy.
Participants must apply by completeing the following steps: 1. Resume - Send your resume to us! This is required to find possible placements. 2. Confirmation of availability - We will send sample job descriptions for paid positions. 3. Phone Interview - When we have a placement, we will coordinate a phone interview for participants to speak directly with their prospective employer and finalize details. 4. Acceptance - Once placement is finalized, you will pay the program fee, get an acceptance letter and more!

Volunteers can enjoy the following activities in their free time: *Enjoy living in the capital city of
Ecuador. This beautiful city will
take you back through 500 years of history, cultural sites and unforgettable
experiences. Quito has colonial churches, structures and historical sites dating
back hundreds of years such as La Iglesia de San Francisco, La Plaza de la
Independencia, the impressive Basilica and more. * You can’t miss the Teleferico! This is a sky tram that takes passengers up the flanks of the Pichincha Volcano to the top of Cruz Loma. The panoramic views from here are quite breathtaking. * Adjacent to the
Old
City in
Quito, El
Panecillo is a large hill on top of which there is a large statue of the Virgin
of
Quito which
is visible from miles around. From the top there are marvelous views of the
whole city and the volcanoes. * Just outside
Quito
is the site where measurement was first made that proved the shape of the Earth
is in fact an oblate spheroid. Commemorating this, there is a large monument
that straddles the equator called Mitad del Mundo. You must also straddle the
line dividing the north and south hemispheres, with one foot in each. *Take a weekend tour and hike up the Cotopaxi volcano. The Cotopaxi National Park is located in the “Avenue of the Volcanoes”, a breathtaking place. Hike to the glaciers and enjoy the spectacular view!
